new: postdoc position for 2012
Subject:
Development of a new discretization method for kinetic
equations
Contact :
Luc Mieussens
Backround of the candidate:
One or more of the following backgrounds are required:
applied mathematics, numerical methods for PDEs, numerical methods for
hyperbolic conservation laws, kinetic theory, gas dynamics.
Context and objectives:
Context and objectives:}
Deterministic methods that are used in rarefied gas dynamics are
not very efficient in weakly collisionnal regimes. This is mainly due to
the strong gradients -or discontinuities- of the distribution function
with respect to the velocity variable. The aim of this project is to
improve these methods by developping a new discretization of
the velocity variable recently introduced in our team.
The method should be analyzed (order of accuracy, convergence,
etc.), implemented and tested (in 1D and 2D).
The post-doc will be a member of the team ``Scientific Computing and
modeling'' of the Bordeaux Institute of Mathematics, in a group composed of a PhD student, an engineer,
an assistant professor and a professor.
